ABGA Hackathon Round-up

The Blockchain Gaming Hackathon 2022 Finals and Awards Ceremony recently took place in Singapore as participants flocked to the event organized by ABGA (Asia Blockchain Gaming Alliance) and Klaytn. 

This one-of-a-kind Web 3 event took place on September 26 and 27 at the Sands Expo and Convention Center, Singapore. 

This event brought together more than 3,000 blockchain industry practitioners, top enterprises, and institutions registered. It also attracted nearly 100 game development teams worldwide, resulting in several creative Web3 projects and standards for gaming technology.

Day 1 (26 September): 

ABGA & Klaytn Hackathon judge panel included top-notch Web3 masterminds, such as Sunny (CEO at Krystal), Jim Cho (Head of Operations at Pro Gamer DAO), Yannan (Terrence) Wang (Partner at ZhenFund), Evans (Head of Investment at Huobi Ventures), Michael (Co-Founder at Lead Capital), Jin Hong (Business Lead at Marblex), Junbo Yang (Investment Manager at Hashkey Capital), Zinan (Investment Director at KuCoin Ventures), Kelly (Founding Partner at True Global Ventures), Johnson Yau (Investment Manager at MEXC Pioneer), Sarah Zhang (Investment Director at BKEX Labs).

Out of 84 projects, Top 8 were presented to the audience and judge group from various angles, including project introduction, software development, economic model, team introduction, and roadmap. Ranking as follows:

SavannaSurvival: Gold Winner

SavannaSurvival is set to inspire gamers on wildlife, conservation & blockchain education in an enjoyable way! 

Cyberpop Metaverse: Silver Winner

Cyberpop is an open-world UGC blockchain metaverse game combined with multi-play modes. It is the world's first open-world MMO- RPG metaverse game with cyber style. 

Horizon: Silver Winner

Horizon is a near-future open world and independent economic system. 

FindTruman: Bronze Winner

FindTruman is the First Alternate Reality Game in Metaverse. Players can join the co-creation procedure of the story and IP or a transformation of these stories/ IPs into web2 games.

GamePhylum: Bronze Winner

GamePhylum is a game Information data aggregation platform built for the new wave of future Web3 games. It incentives gamers to write strategies and like strategies.

The Wake: Klaytn' s Choice

The Wake is the world's first and largest isometric multiplayer role-playing (MMORPG) game to feature Norse mythology in the metaverse.

Day 2 (27 September): 

Simon Li, Co-founder and Vice President of ABGA, Founding Partner of Chain Capital, kicked off the event by mentioning the history of the ABGA, its founding principles, and membership. He also encouraged all Hackathon teams.

ABGA Executive President Kevin Shao elaborated a summary of the overall data of the gaming industry. He also claimed that investors who believe in the long-term potential of blockchain are betting on NFT and Web3 sectors in this bear market.

Yoshi, Game Partnership Lead at Klaytn, discussed the existing Web3 gaming landscape and the gaming industry business structure. Klaytn- an open-source Layer 1 public chain devoted to the Metaverse, gamefi, and the creator economy. Klaytn remains a dominant public chain in South Korea and is undergoing global business expansion.

Gagan Palrecha, CEO of NFTStar said that NFTs and play-to-earn games are here to stay. His firm NFTStar is bringing the world of sports fans together with immersive experiences.

Sandy Carter, SVP of Unstoppable Domains, asserted that Digital Identity and Web3 would become the new gateway to the internet, where Web2 companies will begin piloting Web3 concepts incorporating digital identity. Both decentralized and government-backed Digital Identities will continue to find new utilities.

Marvin, Chief Scientist of iPolloverse stated that the Metaverse might be the next major platform in computing after the world wide web and mobile. He also claimed that NFT would become the interactive carrier of the Metaverse.

Immutable co-founder Robbie Ferguson in his keynote, declared that user-generated content is the future of all entertainment industries, and gaming is one of them.

Monsta Infinite CFO Mark Lee shared insights on how to build an economic model for a successful Gamefi while considering Token Distribution and user acquisition. 

MixMarvel CSO and co-founder Mary Ma shared thoughts on WEB3 MMO GAMES in the keynote. She advised that blockchain games or WEB3 games should develop and explore more player-oriented mechanisms and attributes. This means that the chain game project should pay more attention to the project's technical, content, and interpersonal aspects.

The ABGA (ABGA Blockchain Gaming 2022 Summit) & Klaytn Gaming Hackathon officially ended after two months of the tournament.  ABGA will keep an eye out for great start-up teams in the future and offer the required technical and resource support to strengthen the Blockchain gaming track.
