In a groundbreaking case, Texas federal court judge Robert Pitman has ordered Bitcoin investor Frank Richard Ahlgren III to surrender all crypto public and private keys, wallet access codes, and devices as part of his sentence for tax fraud.
Ahlgren falsely reported $3.7 million in Bitcoin sales between 2017 and 2019, underreporting capital gains.
The court has banned Ahlgren and his associates from moving any of his cryptocurrency without prior approval. This includes all Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Bitcoin Gold, Ether, and Litecoin assets.
Ahlgren attempted to hide his transactions by using multiple wallets, in-person transfers, and crypto mixers. Despite this, his tax evasion tactics were uncovered, leading to a prison sentence and further legal consequences.
