Following a digital asset license in Poland, Bitget has sought a similar Virtual Assets Service Provider (VASP) license in India.
In the last couple of months, similar licenses were granted to Binance and KuCoin after both exchanges sought a similar permit from the FIU after paying their due penalties.
Binance alone had paid $2.5 million in penalties while KuCoin paid less than $50k.
Bitget provided no further details regarding the timeline or the kind of licence that it seeks.
Off-shore crypto exchanges have been seeking licenses to operate in India since December 2023, when authorities shadow-banned them.
