Bitcoin wallets tied to Ross Ulbricht, founder of Silk Road, still hold $47 million worth of BTC. These wallets have remained untouched for over 13 years.
On Tuesday, U.S. President Donald Trump issued a full and unconditional pardon to Ulbricht, who had been serving a double life sentence for running Silk Road, a platform for anonymous illegal trade using Bitcoin.
While the U.S. government seized tens of thousands of BTC from Silk Road, Grogan found ~430 BTC across wallets associated with Ulbricht that were never confiscated.
Coinbase director Conor Grogan doubts whether Ulbricht can access the Bitcoin, saying, "Unlikely if he has the keys stored anywhere. I guess we’ll know soon enough."
