Shortly after Elon Musk's move against crypto spam bots, Twitter users have begun seeing changes. They say scam comments have been reduced on Twitter due to the new adjustments.
You would recall that on 11 December, Elon Musk tweeted, "bots are in for a surprise tomorrow." Similarly, he revealed that his team has discovered that a small number of individuals are behind this high number of spam and troll accounts. He added that they had discovered these individuals, and by "tomorrow," Twitter would lock down their IP addresses.
Furthermore, the Twitter CEO said there is a high possibility that these "bad actors" will attempt various tactics to bypass the IP address limitation. However, he said Twitter will "turn them off as soon as they come up."
Industry players and Twitter users have started attesting to the efficiency of adjusting to tackling the crypto spam bots. For instance, Billy Markus, whose pen name is Shibetoshi Nakamoto, tested the adjustment. He said, "I created a test post, and instead of seeing replies, I only saw one instead of 50. That is tremendous progress; extremely excited."
Other individuals who have tested the crypto spam bot adjustments include Plan B, a Bitcoin analyst, and an investor. He tweeted a chart to track bots' responses and comments on tweets. Twenty-four hours later, he said he hadn't seen any bot response in the comments.
Similarly, Vitalik Buterin, Ethereum's co-founder, seems to have enjoyed Twitter more recently. He remarked that Twitter "seems" somewhat nicer to use recently. However, he is unsure whether the improvement is due to Twitter's adjustment to crypto spam bots. Significantly, Vitalik Buterin said, "I'm not sure how to differentiate something Elon done from crypto-winter from my brain seeing changes that aren't truly there."
Furthermore, some users say the adjustment needs improvement. They said bot answers continue to appear on their postings— however, the platform deletes them as fast as possible. They want Twitter to prevent the bots from commenting while they applaud the prompt deletion.
Furthermore, Elon Musk revealed that Twitter would take legal action against bad actors that use crypto spam bots and scammers. He said, " Twitter will also be moving to prosecute scammers anywhere on earth."
Recently, crypto community users on Twitter have complained about the increase in bots on the platform. While bots are prevalent in the cryptocurrency ecosystem, they have infested Twitter by spamming most crypto-related posts.
Similarly, once a popular crypto account posts, these scammers infest the Twitter thread with legions of bots— trying to scam users.
Significantly, when Musk wanted to conclude the Twitter takeover deal, he requested information on bots available on the platform. His lawyer said they needed to "make an independent assessment of the prevalence of fake or spam accounts on Twitter's platform." Since the takeover, he has started going after these spam bots and crypto scammers.
