How to Spot a Fake Crypto Telegram Admin?

Crypto projects favor Telegram groups to communicate with their community of users. The team broadcasts new concepts that the crypto platform is working on, news, new announcements, airdrops, etc. Community members use this to interact with one another and the team. They can air their suggestions and grievances to the team through the Telegram channel.

With this development, it is common to notice a trend of scammers creating copycat admin accounts to fleece others. For example, when a person posts a suggestion or question in the telegram group, these copycat admin accounts usually send a private message instantly, claiming to be the group's admin.

To make it believable, they copy the name and display a picture of the genuine admin in the group, then send it to the individual. They promise to help the user solve the issue. Unfortunately, it usually degenerates to sending an individual a scam link that requests personal details like seed phrases or asking the user to send funds to them.

Spotting a fake admin on Telegram is easy; however, if you keep these in mind:

  • If they ask you for funds, they are most likely fake. Admins do not send a direct message asking crypto users to transfer tokens to them.
  • If the admin requests personal details, it is most likely a scam attempt.
  • To check if an admin is genuine, copy their username and search it in the crypto group for posts. If no posts come up, it is a fake crypto admin profile designed to scam you.

As stated previously, it is paramount not to disclose private information like seed phrases, private keys, log-in details, and so on via a DM, even when it comes from a genuine admin account.
