Flipkart Debuts Metaverse

Flipkart is an Indian e-commerce giant launching its virtual space for customers to discover products in a photorealistic virtual destination and shop.

The launch of Flipverse is a partnership with eDAO, a Polygon-incubated organization. The Flipverse is a metaverse platform that will allow shoppers to create an avatar to go shopping in a virtual world. The aim is to bring customers closer to their favorite brands.

According to the announcement, Flipkart will feature several brands and products on the Flipverse. These brands include Puma, Noise, Nivea, Lavie, Tokyo Talkies, and Campus. Flipverse will also feature contests and exclusive offers from these brands and support unique digital collectibles.

Indians can also order sneakers from brands such as Puma in the metaverse for seven days when the platform goes live.

The Flipverse offering is in the pilot stage and aims to attract interest during this month's festive season.

On the part of the Polygon (the partnering tech firm) co-founder, Sandeep Nailwal, he said the world has only "just begun to scratch the surface of what's possible in the metaverse," and e-commerce is one of the "killer use cases" of this space.

This statement points to the fact that it will usher in a new technological era where internet users can merge their reality with a virtual experience.

Final Thought

Flipkart joins the likes of Tech Mahindra, an Indian multinational technology firm, in launching a metaverse platform.  You would recall that Tech Mahindra launched TechMVerse in February 2022, and in October, Flipkart launched Flipverse.

There are expectations that more Indian service providers will partner with blockchain development companies.

However, fingers are crossed to see how Indian shoppers will embrace the all-new platform by Flipkart.
