Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and Twitter (formerly known as X), has branched into yet another tech field.
The X CEO has now unveiled his newest venture: A new chat-based AI that he claims is better than other existing chatbots, and also possesses one of the most human traits:
Personality and humour.
Elon Musk has named this chatbot Grok. And according to an announcement tweet, Grok is the first AI model released by xAI, Elon Musk's new AI startup.
Here are the details.
Grok has inherent advantages over other chat-based AIs, in that it is directly connected to Twitter (X), and inherently has access to a massive trove of information and conversations taken from from millions of users.
According to Elon Musk, Grok "loves sarcasm" and responds with "a little humour" to questions that are often rejected by other AIs.
Elon Musk also says that Grok has a "massive advantage over other models" because while these other models like GPT 3.5 rely on a limited amount of information, Grok is as up-to-date as can be.
Musk has been one of the most vocal critics of AI. This has been the case since 2018 when Musk mentioned to OpenAI stakeholders, that he believed the company, was trailing behind Google.
Musk suggested a takeover of the company to his fellow cofounder Sam Altman and eventually resigned when the other co-founders rejected his offer.
Over the years, Musk has also expressed his concerns about the dangers of AI, especially as more people continue to jump on the bandwagon.
Musk has also called for a pause in building and scaling AI models until further notice.
In fact, the Twitter CEO even signed a petition along with other CEOs to call for more regulations and monitoring of AI.
The CEO went further to say that he signed the petition "knowing it was futile" and that he just wanted to be "on the record ".
In all, Musk has also said that he hopes that Grok will be a "friendly" and "fun" AI that will pose no risks to humanity.
As per Musk's announcement, Grok is still in a very early testing stage and has only been trained for two months.
However, the AI is expected to "improve rapidly" as the weeks roll by and more users jump on and give feedback.
However, not everyone will get access.
Musk says that Grok will only be available to all X Premium+ users, and not regular users.
Recall that sometime this year, Musk mentioned that he intended to transform X into a do-everything app that can rival WeChat, developed by Tencent in China.
Grok, according to Musk, will be one of the key components of that vision and will be able to offer users a personalized AI assistant.
xAI also mentioned that Grok will be incorporated into other systems like Tesla and others, and will be able to answer questions with a bit of Humor and Jokes.
"Grok is designed to answer questions with a bit of wit and has a rebellious streak, so please don't use it if you hate humour!", Musk says.
AI chatbots are becoming smarter as the months pass by.
Most AI chatbots can now chat with users in a human-like manner, process images and even write computer programs.
There are even chatbots being developed that can communicate in different languages and dialects, including African languages that have been historically underrepresented in the tech niche.
According to a recent study from the University of Cape Town, there are now more than 100 chatbots that can process and understand at least one of the 2,000 African languages.
This trend of AI becoming better and more scalable is bound to keep going up over the years.
One can only wonder what miracles AI will be able to perform, five or ten years from today.
