Do you feel optimistic about the crypto market today? If your answer was no, then it should've been yes!
Bad jokes aside, the second most popular Ethereum scaling solution, Optimism just announced some pretty interesting news, as you will soon see.
According to a recent tweet from the Optimism Foundation, the Layer-2 solution has now begun distributing millions of $OP tokens worth more than $20 million to tens of thousands of addresses, in its latest airdrop.
What's more, the OP foundation has reserves of hundreds of millions of tokens for future airdrops.
If this doesn't sound interesting to you, then we don't know what will.
Here's everything you need to know:
According to a tweet made on its official X (previously Twitter) account on September 18, Optimism (OP) has started distributing 19 million OP tokens, or around $26 million, to over 31,000 different addresses as part of its third airdrop campaign.
Do you think you're qualified?
According to this announcement, a user must have acquired at least 18,000 points, which are determined by multiplying the number of tokens staked, by the number of days these tokens have been staked.
This means that to be eligible, over the last six months, users should have staked at least 180 OP for 100 days minimum.
Distribution of these tokens to all 31,000 users started early this week on Monday and will continue until all users have successfully received their airdropped tokens.
On top of the reward for delegation, Optimism has also announced that users will receive a 2x bonus if they have delegated to an active voter, or someone who has participated in an on-chain vote in Optimism governance.
According to data from CoinMarketCap, Optimism has a total supply of 4.3 billion $OP.
The Optimism community page also shows that a total of 19% of this supply (about 817 million $OP) was initially set aside for airdrops, with 5% of this being used to settle the first $OP airdrop.
After the second (11,700,000 $OP) and third airdrops (19,400,000 $OP), this leaves a massive 570 million $OP allocated for future airdrops.
Trading expert and Layer 2 delegate, Olympio, also mentioned this in a recent tweet, stating that the Optimism foundation was "waiting for a bull" to deploy the "big guns".
The whole point of this is that the airdrops on Optimism are expected to continue rolling out, and now may not be too late to get in on some "Optimistic action".
Optimism token has remained scarcely bullish over the last 24 hours, according to CoinMarketCap.
However, on the weekly timeframe, the cryptocurrency is trading at about 4% in gains.
CoinMarketCap also shows that the cryptocurrency is bullish in terms of trading volumes, with a 24-hour volume of $72 million, with the Optimism network's number of daily transactions holding steady at an average of 300,000 transactions a day.
In the charts, $OP is holding steady inside an ascending channel and is showing signs of incredible price strength as its RSI prints neutral conditions.
OP is trading at about $1.389 at the time of writing, after bouncing off the channel's base around $1.2.
Here are some likely scenarios:
In all, if $OP stays above $1.2, it remains likely for the cryptocurrency to rally further upwards and retest $2 soon.
