The collectibles feature is now available to residents of 100 countries like Africa, Asia-Pacific, and the Middle East. According to the Meta website, this feature will allow Instagram users to upload any NFTs they own by connecting their digital wallets to the app.
The feature also allows users to share NFTs and automatically tag both a creator and a collector for attribution. An NFT can be shared in the main feed, stories, or Instagram messages. The collectible's finish has a shiny appearance, and you can add any descriptions to it.
In the press release, Meta indicated that it would support connections to third-party wallets, including Rainbow, MetaMask, Trust Wallet, Coinbase Wallet, and Dapper Wallet. The feature initially supports Ethereum, Polygon, and Flow blockchains. The social network further noted that no fees are associated with posting or sharing a digital collectible on Instagram.
The expansion is Meta's latest effort to break into Web3 via NFTs. The company, formerly Facebook, announced months ago that it was integrating digital collectibles into Instagram. More recently, it indicated that this feature would also come to its original platform, Facebook.
However, Instagram is not the only social network immersing itself in new technological trends. Last year, Twitter became the first major social platform to adopt NFTs and integrate Bitcoin tipping.
Meanwhile, YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki has already suggested that the platform adopt Web3 technologies, including NFTs, and help YouTube creators earn money. More recently, Reddit launched its own NFT avatar marketplace.
