Key Insights

  • Google launches its "Google for Startups Cloud Program."
  • The partnership programme will help to provide technical and financial support to pre-seeded and seeded Web3 startups.
  • The benefits vary from $2,000 to about $3 million in credit funding.

Google Cloud has become the latest cloud service platform to collaborate with web3 startups. The cloud service platform is bringing on board several web3 start-ups that will leverage collaboration and partnership for improved data storage and service delivery.

In its launch of the "Google for Startups Cloud Program," the company says the web3 startup program will provide technical tools, cloud storage services, a credit facility and a host of other technological advancements to pre-seed to Series A companies.

It said projects that partake in the program would receive web3 benefits. These unique benefits include a private Discord channel with Google Cloud web3 product, web3 training courses and grants from its foundation partners.

Google Cloud Integrates Web3 firms

On April 25, Google for Startups Cloud Program increased its partnership to include 11 web3 firms such as Alchemy, Aptos, Base, Celo, Flow, Hedera, Nansen, Near, Polygon, Solana, and Thirdweb.

As part of this programme, web3 firms such as Nansen have taken the partnership a notch further. The blockchain analytics firm announced that it will be providing real-time blockchain data for startups.

Reacting enthusiastically to the partnership, James Tromans, the Head of the company's Web3 engineering, said

"We want to make Google Cloud the first choice for every Web3 startup and developer to help launch and scale their business."

He added that

"The ethos of Web3 is centered around partnerships. Our program doesn't just leverage what we can offer but also the unique incentives that other Web3 innovators can provide as well."

According to the announcement, the programme has two product suites for Web3 startups. The product suites would be for pre-seed firms — firms that are yet to raise funding for the seeded startups.

For pre-seed companies, they will receive up to $2,000 Google Cloud credits valid for two years. Other benefits include access to events such as Paris Blockchain Week, Consensus, and TOKEN2049.

On the other hand, Seeded startups will receive up to $200,000 over two years for Google Cloud and Firebase usage. The benefit includes $12,000 Google Cloud Enhanced Support Credits and 12 months of free Google Workspace Business Plus.

Finally, aside from a grant of up to $1 million from Web3 giants such as Aptos and Solana Foundation, Polygon ventures will provide up to $3 million in funding to Seeded firms.

What the Collaboration Offers the Web3 Startups

The foremost benefit that web3 startups stand to gain is that Google Cloud will provide several tools to help develop their projects. The partnership will include credit support of about $200,000 over two years.

Significantly, the Web3 startups enrolled in the programme will have early access opportunities to the company's new Web3 products. These startups will be able to acquire and use these products (first-hand) before they are available to the public.

Another benefit is that the partnership will focus on helping the Web3 developer community to scale to a reliable and sustainable height. The programme will enable blockchain-based applications to grow and be independent— while enjoying the full benefit of the Startups Cloud Program.
